Update on us 3/29/11

29 Mar

Graham and I headed back to his old stomping grounds today to get some Botox injections.  He tried talking the Doctor into taking care of his crow’s feet, but was only able to get his arm done.  Maybe next time?  These injections can take up to a week to start working and usually last about 2-3 months.  The idea behind them is to relax the tight muscles in his arm that are controlling his hand.  Botox used in these types of things, may or may not work for Graham.  If it does work and relaxes the muscles, the brain can then re-learn to move his arm/hand how it once did.  He’ll have to keep up with his therapy and even have to go back to Sunnyview to get evaluated with it.  Just all part of the long road we are on now.

Graham continues to work on his eye therapy at home by using something called a “Brock String.”  It’s a long string with beads on it.  He sets them at different distances and has to work on looking at them and making them turn into one bead instead of the two he would normally see.  Believe it or not, it’s hard work.  I’ll try to get some pictures so you can all see what it’s really like.  No more light therapy for now, but the Brock String isn’t much fun either.

Here’s the toy box…..still a few things to finish, but

basically done!  The boys LOVE it!  Mommy does too!

Before Graham was injured he had an extremely unique and awesome relationship with our eldest son, Wyatt.  They were buddies, and Wyatt just adored Graham.  It was painful to watch when Graham came home and Wyatt almost didn’t want to be around him and definitely wouldn’t listen to him.  I thought it would get better quickly, but it didn’t.  Even though Wyatt won’t remember all the details and heartache, he was most definitely affected by all of this.  Time heals most deep and painful wounds, and time has been so great for our family.  Graham and Wyatt as well as Keith are doing so great with each other.  I love hearing them wrestle together, laugh and share little special moments.  I always appreciated Graham and his amazing fathering skills, but now I realize how important he really is for our boys and I treasure those times in my heart differently now.  Maybe it’s because it was all almost taken from me.  I have ONLY the Lord to thank for this!

This is how we wrestle when Daddy is really tired!

Miracle of the day:

Graham’s singing voice is STILL improving.  The best thing for him has been to just sing and sing and sing as MUCH as possible!  He’s been leading worship at our church and it’s been so encouraging seeing him each week growing stronger and more powerful in his voice!  The Lord loves us!

Humor of the day:

I wanted to get some pictures of Graham and his “torture device,” and thought I would try to throw the whole family in there.  Here’s us trying this…..

First attempt, NOT even close, but notice Graham’s arm nicely strapped up!

Second Attempt, Not sure where Keith is!?!?!?!?

Third attempt, getting better, but some heads are cut off!!!

The best it’s going to get!

Thanks for praying for us!!!

My son has also been using the Brock string with his brain injury. It’s amazing what several months of therapy has done for his vision. Keep up the great work and be strong in the faith! Be thankful you have doctors and therapists who know how to treat Graham. We have a friend across the country with TBI who hasn’t been able to get the proper care.

haha love the photo sequences… just imagine if you tried to get the dogs and horses in the picture as well… 😛

it really has been awesome to hear how Graham’s voice (as one example) is improving! I have to confess, I tend to forget that it really has not been that long ago that you didn’t even know if he was going to wake up. Thank God for His miracles!! 🙂
